How to Find (and Vet) a Wholesale Wood Pellet Supplier
The eight checks every importer should run before signing a wholesale wood pellet contract — production capacity, certifications, references, and QA.
The wood pellet trade attracts brokers who don't own a single mill. Nothing wrong with brokers — but at wholesale volumes you want to know where your tonnage actually comes from.
Eight due-diligence checks
- Physical mill visit (or verified drone/video walkthrough)
- Annual production capacity vs your requested tonnage
- Current ENplus / FSC / ISO 9001 certificate numbers
- Bank reference letter and D-U-N-S number
- Two active buyer references in your region
- Third-party lab reports from the last 6 months
- Insurance certificate covering cargo and product liability
- Sample bag delivered before contract signing
Red flags
Prices 15%+ below the CIF ARA index, refusal to name the mill, and pressure to pay 100% upfront are the three signals most experienced importers cite. A serious supplier is happy to accept an LC or a documentary collection.
