How Many Bags of Wood Pellets Are in a Ton (and a Pallet)?
One metric ton of wood pellets equals about 66 bags of 15 kg. Full breakdown for 10 kg, 15 kg, 20 kg and big-bag formats.
The answer depends on your bag size and whether you mean a metric ton (1,000 kg) or a US short ton (907 kg). Wholesale contracts always use metric tons.
Bags per metric ton
- 10 kg bags: 100 per ton
- 15 kg bags: ~66.7 per ton
- 20 kg bags: 50 per ton
- 40 lb (18.14 kg) bags: ~55 per ton
Bags per pallet
A standard EUR-pallet of 15 kg bags carries 65–70 bags shrink-wrapped — approximately 1 metric ton. A 40' HC container fits 24 pallets, or roughly 24 tonnes.
Big-bags
Big-bags (also called FIBC or jumbo bags) are always 1,000 kg — one bag equals one ton. They stack two-high in a container: 22 tonnes per 20' box.
